Kerri-Anne Anderson

  • How did you get started?

I studied fashion design and production for three years and learnt how to create a product from a design. I had developed a passion for sewing and a passion for handbags. I started making so many, it only seemed logical to start selling them!

  • What is the story behind your name?

I played around with a few names which included my initials, ‘handbags’ and the like, but decided to just keep it simple and use my own name.

  • What are you working on right now?

I’ve just finished creating a range of items for Etsy’s makeforgood campaign where 20% of sales are donated to help girls in developing countries. At the moment I’m stocking up on my smaller items like handbag hooks and coin purses which make great Christmas gifts.

  • What are your top tips for newbies who are thinking about doing their first market?

Try not to stress too much! You’ll always learn from the first market what you need for next time. Bring as much stock as you can as you never know what sales are going to be like. It helps to have a supportive friend with you too! Make sure you have a good cash float and look into credit card payment systems – lots of people don’t carry cash anymore. I recently bought Square (to accept card payments) and I’m looking forward to using it at my upcoming markets.

  • Is there an Etsy store you’re crazy about at the moment?

LLL Designs! I’m always tempted to buy new earrings!

  • Where do you pull inspirations from? What inspires you?

I’m a big fan of colour and cool prints for my designs but I’m also inspired by all the creative people around me who have handmade businesses.

  • How can people follow your journey? (Insta, FB, blog, website etc)

My Etsy shop redirects from my link – www.kerrianneanderson.com and I’m also on Instagram instagram.com/kerrianneanderson and Facebook facebook.com/kerrianneandersonhandbags,
  • Where do you work from? (home studio, kitchen table, rented space etc)

I’m lucky to have a spare room to work in at home which is always set up, so I can work a bit here and there.

  • Tell me about your Canberra and the region, favourite spaces, activities etc

I love all the festivals on in Canberra, not to mention the local handmade community too! There’s always something on.
